Launched in February 2017, the Center is based on the expertise of the “Impact Investing for the Next Generation” research and training program at the Initiative for Responsible Investment at the Hauser Center for Civil Society at the Harvard Kennedy School, and the Center for Microfinance at the Department of Banking and Finance that was created in 2009.
Our mission is to activate private wealth and sustainable finance, at scale, as a substantial driver for sustainable development.
In order to move ahead on that mission, we focus on three key areas of activity:
1. Research: Based on our unprecedented data access we advance academically rigorous research work on how sustainability and impact relate to the financial performance of firms, how they can be implemented through investment strategies across entire portfolios, and how to enable stakeholders to act upon that knowledge.
2. Teaching and Executive Education: Through our targeted programs we enable students, current and future private wealth owners, and investment- and banking professionals to engage in sustainable finance.
3. Outreach: We publish key findings in public media, engage with and support other universities, and regularly convene wealth owner groups.
